Foundations of Space

"The NASA Human Research Program"
NASA has reorganized its human research program (HRP) to reduce spaceflight risks to space explorers by focusing its investigations on the areas of highest risk to crew health and performance during exploration class missions. The human research program is also enabling the development of human spaceflight medical and human factors standards to assist in the design of next-generation spacecraft. HRP is a lso developing and validating technologies that will serve to reduce medical risks asssociated with human spaceflight. The Human Research Program actively seeks to engage its partner nations in flight and ground research areas.

International Space Programs Review

Theme: This session will review the activities and plans of NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA and other international partners.

"JAXA Astronaut Activities and the current status of the Japanese space program."
Three JAXA astronauts are currently assigned to construct the Japanese elements of the International Space Station. This presentation will introduce the activities of the Japanese astronauts and JAXA's plans for utilization of its on-orbit facilities.

"ESA Contributions to the ISS–Ready for Launch"
This presentation will showcase ESA's contributions to the ISS: the Columbus Laboratory, with its high class experimental facilities and the Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), as well as the extensive ground support infrastructure ESA will deploy to support European science on board the ISS.
